Comments

On 2017, 950 of these coins were sold in sets (four species of Penguin) straight from the mint, but in circulation quality.
250 coins were sent for circulation in the Falkland Islands. making these technically "circulating commemoratives".
This coin is uncoloured ; the coloured versions issued earlier in the year were not intended for circulation and are numismatic products rather than circulating commemoratives.
This particular coin is the uncoloured circulating version of a coin issued as a numismatic product earlier in the year. That earlier version was itself a revision of an incorrectly illustrated first version which depicted the markedly different Northern Rockhopper species. The Northern Rockhopper coin is not technically a mint error but a result of carelessness of Pobjoy Mint and the Government of the Falkland Islands. Production of the coin was halted, but the company seized the opportunity to sell to collectors both the original mistaken identity coin and its successor. Both versions are shown on Numista.
