Comments

The nicknames "Cyborgs" comes from many Ukrainians viewing the defenders at the airport as superhumans, for them being able to take on the heavily armed Russian insurgents.

This coin celebrates the defenders of Donetsk Airport, known as cyborgs, who defended the airport for 242 days. Their courageous and heroic battles have come to symbolize the self-sacrificing fight for Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

  • In 2020, after first 9 coins of the series of 10 Hryven denomination were put into circulation, NBU started selling empty albums for them.
  • In July 2022 NBU started selling albums already filled with coins.
  • Between January 2018 and July 2022 coins of the series of 10 Hryven denomination were non-circulating coins (they were selling with price denomination + at least 10% in banks or for the short period of time by denomination in NBU web store). At the end of July 2022 (at the fifth month of war with Russia) NBU made a decision to make these coins circulating commemorative starting from August 1, 2022 and put into circulation his reserve of approximately 5-6 millions of coins and stop distributing them via banks.
