Comments

After Peter I. controlled most of the regions of the Baltics and southern Finland, Peter I. wanted to also defeat the swedish fleet. The Swedish fleet was feared and seen as potential danger by the Russians for its advanced ships. Peter the I ordered 11 new ships with modern armament and equipment and observed the new ships in Mai and June 1713 from his naval fort Kronslot. By order of the Tsar the fleet departed on the 6th July 1713 to defeat the Swedish fleet and on the 11th July 1713 the battle took place near by the Island of Gogland and which ended up in a draw.
This medal was minted to show with pride the new Russian war ships, also as a sign of demonstration of power to Swedish admirality.
