In a circle accompanying the edge of the play, the trigrams that are related to the Five Elements (wu xing 五行), which are discussed in Ancient Chinese Symbols of Charm: Star, Moon, Cloud and Dragon. The trigrams of this charm from the top and clockwise (in this piece) are as follows: qian 乾 (sky), xun 巽 (wind), kan 坎 (water), gen 艮 (mountain), kun 坤 (earth), zhen 震 (thunder), li 离 (fire) and dui 兑 (lake).

Note: The trigrams are written from the edge to the center and the Chinese characters are spelled from the center to the edge.
