The Eternal Flame is a sculptural feature of the Pool of Reflection in the commemorative area at the Australian War Memorial. A flame is widely accepted as a symbol of eternal life, with the Eternal Flame at the memorial being a perpetual reminder of the service and sacrifice of more than 102,000 Australians who have given their lives in war and other operations since 1885. Their names are inscribed in bronze on the Roll of Honour surrounding the Memorial's Eternal Flame.
