Comments

The Royal Australian Mint have released a set of seven NCLT "Ford High Octane" 50 cent coins to commemorate Australia's Motorsport Legends. The coins were available in coin cards in a special tin that resembles the top of the cylinder head of an engine. The "Ford High Octane" tin was limited to a mintage of 10,000 and sold out from the RAM in less than 2 days.

Included in the tin was a non-coloured coin unique to the tin as well as the other six pad printed coins which could also be purchased separately with a further 20,000 minted of them all issued in large coincards.

This particular coin is the seventh in the series and commemorates the 2006 Ford BA Falcon. Bathurst can take an emotional toll on drivers and teams, but for 2006, the emotion of Peter Brock's death in the weeks leading up to the Great Race cast a cloud over the mountain. For a devastated Ford driver and former Brock protégé Craig Lowndes, it was fitting that he won what was the first Great Race to offer "The Peter Brock Trophy", aboard his BA Falcon. What's more, Lowndes and co-driver Jamie Whincup went on to win Bathurst in a BA Ford Falcon in 2007 and BF Falcon 2008, the only men to score a three-peat at the mountain, other than Brock and his co-drivers.

Australia Post also released this coin in a PNC. (7,500 Copies)
