The Royal Australian Mint have released a set of NCLT "Holden High Octane" 50 cent coins to commemorate Australia's Motorsport Legends. The coins were available in coin cards in a special tin that resembles the top of a cylinder head , which included a coin unique to the tin, with a mintage of 10,000, or the other six pad printed coins could be purchased separately with a further 20,000 minted of them. The 10,000 Holden tin sets with the unique coin sold out from the RAM in less than 7 hours.

This particular coin is the second in the series and commemorates the 1970 HT Monaro GTS 350. urpose-built to conquer the American-sourced Mustangs and Cameros thatb had dominated the Australian Touring Car Championship in the late 1960's, the Holden HT GTS 350 Monaro was a banner head car in Holden;s history. This Monaro was all Australian; its locally developed V8 engine propelling the didtinctive red and yellow coupe to the 1970 championship becoming the first Holden, and indeed the first locally produced carb to win the title. Four podium finishes by Norm Beechly out of seven rounds was enough to take out the ATCC title, a win he considered his greatest racing achievement .
