Comments

The Royal Australian Mint have released a set of seven NCLT "Holden High Octane" 50 cent coins to commemorate Australia's Motorsport Legends. The coins were available in coin cards in a special tin that resembles the top of the cylinder head of an engine. The "Holden High Octane" tin was limited to a mintage of 10,000 and sold out from the RAM in less than 7 hours.

Included in the tin was a non-coloured coin unique to the tin as well as the other six pad printed coins which could also be purchased separately with a further 20,000 minted of them all issued in large coincards.

This particular coin is the fourth in the series and commemorates the 1979 LX Torana A9X. The 1979 Bathurst winning Holden Torana A9X of Peter Brock and Jim Richards is one of the greatest Holden race cars of all time. The sleek two-door coupe, with its distinctive bonnet scoop and throaty five-litre V8 power plant, turned on one of the most dominant performances ever seen at Mount Panorama. This 400-plus horsepower Torana was the best of the best from the famous Holden Dealer Team. This mighty car dominated Mount Panorama like no other. Starting from pole position, it won by a record six lap margin and led start to finish over the 163-lap distance. Just to prove its dominance, Brock also broke the lap record on the very last lap.

This coin was also released in a PNC by Australia Post. (7,500 Copies)

Also released at the ANDA Perth Money Expo in a Limited Edition PNC. (750 Copies)
