Royal Australian Mint, Canberra, Australia (1965-date)

The Royal Australian Mint have released a set of seven NCLT "Holden High Octane" 50 cent coins to commemorate Australia's Motorsport Legends. The coins were available in coin cards in a special tin that resembles the top of the cylinder head of an engine. The "Holden High Octane" tin was limited to a mintage of 10,000 and sold out from the RAM in less than 7 hours.

Included in the tin was a non-coloured coin unique to the tin as well as the other six pad printed coins which could also be purchased separately with a further 20,000 minted of them all issued in large coincards.

This particular coin is the fifth in the series and commemorates the 1984 VK Commodore. The 1984 'Big Banger' Holden Commodore VK is one of the truly legendary cars to have won the famous race at Bathurst. This car was a head-turner, purpose built to farewell the local Group C regulations in style, ahead of the introduction of more international-flavoured cars the following year. With wide racing tyres, flared guards and a striking 'day glo' colour scheme, the car was a real head-turner from the moment it was revealed.

In the hands of Brock and co-driver Larry Perkins, this car was unstoppable and claimed the duo's third Bathurst 1000 win in a row, leading all but 19 of the 163 laps in a flawless demonstration of the team's professionalism.

This coin was also released in a PNC by Australia Post. (7,500 Copies)
