The Silk Floss Tree
Ceiba insignis (Chorisia speciosa). Family of the bombáceas. Common names: palo borracho, samohú.
It grows in Brazil, Paraguay and the northeast of Argentina. It's remarkable pink or white flowering is maintained from late summer to late fall. It stands out for the curious shape of its trunk with large stingers, and for its fruits, which when opened let out their seeds wrapped in a white snowflake that takes them through the air.
In Buenos Aires the specimens of the Barranco de la Plaza San Martín are very colourful, they are also found in quantity in the forests of Palermo and many parks, plazas, and sidewalks.
