Comments

This token was given to school children who wrote stories for a competition sponsored by the Montréal Witness, a Protestant newspaper. The reverse is a copy of a 1756 French jeton promoting the North American colonies. The legend "Non Inferiora Metalis" refers to the value of beaver (and other) fur available in these colonies. This token was also struck in brass, copper and silver.
