The Louisiade Archipelago is a string of approximately 100 islands and coral reefs stretching some 100 miles (160km) off the south-east tip of Papau-New Guinea. It has a population of approximately 47,000 and is administered by Papau-New Guinea. It was occupied by the Japanese in 1942 and is near site of the Battle of Coral Sea. This unofficial 2019 dated 200 Kina coin of Louisaide Archipelago has the Bird of Paradise emblem of Papau-New Guinea on the obverse. The reverse depicts a native holding a spear. The six-sided 38mm silver-plated Proof coin has a mintage of just 160 pieces.
