Engraver: Raphael David Maklouf

Raphael David Maklouf is a sculptor, best known for designing the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II used on the coins of many Commonwealth nations. Maklouf was born in Jerusalem emigrating with his family to the United Kingdom after the Second World War. He attended the Camberwell School of Art until 1958, afterward becoming an academic lecturer for ten years. He was made an Associate of the Royal Society of British Sculptors in 1979. Raphael Maklouf was born to a Jewish family. His father is Samuel Maklouf, born in Safed, Raphael Makouf's mother is Leonie Maklouf.

Cockatoo perched on branch of a dead tree. Name of bird and denomination. Also looks to have the engraver's initials under branch to right of coin.

Engraver: Vladimir Gottwald

Vladimir Gottwald was a member of the Royal Australian Mint's Design and Engraving Section. His portrait, designed following the British Royal Mint's invitation for a new effigy in 1996, was among the three designs submitted to Her Majesty for approval. Although Rank-Broadley's design was eventually chosen, Gottwald's design was approved for a once only use to commemorate the Royal Visit in 2000.

Continuous reeding

In bush folklore, the cry of the South-eastern Red-tailed Black Cockatoo Calyptorhynchus banksii graptogyne is reputed to herald rain - making them a welcome sight in rural Australia. Found in eucalypt woodlands or along watercourses, the south-eastern subspecies has been reduced to a fragmented population of fewer than 1000 birds, and is threatened by the clearing of the trees in which they nest. Illegal bird trappers are also thought to be reducing the numbers of the attractive bird.
