From the coat of arms of New Mexico, the Mexican eagle grasping a serpent in its beak, the cactus in its talons, shielded by the American eagle with outspread wings, and grasping arrows in its talons; on a scroll, the motto: "Crescit Eundo.

Although all dated 1935, these tokens were manufactured from 1935-1941.

There are three major die varieties for the obverse:
1) Heads of eagles facing upward, incuse motto, two rows of large feathers in large wing
2) Heads of eagles facing horizontally, two rows of small feathers in large wing
3) Heads of eagles facing horizontally, square top feathers and two rows of large feathers in large wing
