Obverse

A cross-shaped idol dating back to the chalcolithic period (3.000 B.C.), found in Pomos, a village in the district of Paphos. It is a characteristic example of prehistoric art in Cyprus, reflecting the island's antiquity and civilization.

Erik Maell is an American illustrator from Columbus, Ohio. He and Greek Cypriot artist Tatiana Soteropoulos are known for designing the euro coins of Cyprus issued in 2008.

Reverse

The reverse of the coin shows a geographical image of Europe; it also features the numeral 2 and the inscription EURO.

Engraver: Luc Luycx

Luc Luycx is the designer of the common side of the euro coins. Luycx is a computer engineer, and medallist living in Dendermonde, Belgium, and has worked for the Royal Belgian Mint for 15 years. He designed the euro coins in 1996.
