This Fine Silver (.999) Proof 10 cent coin was released as part of the annual Fine Silver Proof Year Set. The Royal Australian Mint began releasing Fine Silver Year Sets in 2003 and have continued to do so since then. The Lyrebird standard reverse 10 cent coin has been included in the Fine Silver Proof Year set every year since 2003.
The Jody Clark 6th Portrait of Queen Elizabeth has been used on the obverse of coins in this 2020 edition of the set for the first time.
The Fine Silver Proof Set normally includes a, 5 cent, 20 cent, 50 cent, $1 and $2 coin as well as this 10 cent coin. The sets are issued in a presentation case, initially made from wood but recently made from plastic or imitation wood.
The standard Copper-nickel version of the 10 cent coin which this Silver coin is based on was introduced into circulation in Australia in 1966 to replace the old £sd Shilling.
