This Fine Silver (.999) Proof $2 coin was released as part of the annual Fine Silver Proof Year Set. The Royal Australian Mint began releasing Fine Silver Year Sets in 2003 and have continued to do so since then. The Aboriginal Man standard reverse $2 coin has been included in the Fine Silver Proof Year set every year since 2003 except for 2016 when it was not part of the set. (In 2006 It was in the Fine Silver set but it had the Arnold Machin Obverse). The Jody Clark 6th Portrait of Queen Elizabeth has been used on the obverse of coins in this 2020 edition of the set for the first time.
The Fine Silver Proof Set normally includes a 5 cent, 10 cent, 20 cent, 50 cent and $1 coin as well as this $2 coin. The sets are issued in a presentation case, initially made from wood but recently made from plastic or imitation wood.
The standard Aluminium-bronze version of the $2 coin which this Silver coin is based on was introduced into circulation in Australia in 1988 to replace the old familiar green $2 note.
