Comments

Total mintage for the two dates was 232 000 pieces. In 1851, the Mint of Bern reported the melting of 254 823, a higher number than the mintage. It is possible that small value Swiss cantonal coins were re-minted in considerable quantities by unauthorized private mints. These restrikes, known as "Judenpfennige", were indistinguishable and circulated in parallel with the official issues. The Mint of Bern likely didn't recognise them either and the restrikes were also accepted.

Two varieties of this type are known:

Variety 1808 (HMZ 2 #934a):
Obverse: Large fleuron in legend.

Variety 1809 (HMZ 2 #934b):
Obverse: Small fleuron in legend.

Palezieux further distinguishes three minor die varieties for 1809, Pal Thurg #16-18.
