Comments

Urraca was an Indian chief from the Province of Veraguas, who fought the Spaniards in Panamá between 1520 and 1531. The arc of 9 stars on the reverse represent the 9 provinces of Panamá at that time (today there are 10).

Since its separation from Colombia in 1903, Panama has used the United States Dollar. These coins have the same specifications as the United States 1 Cent and circulated alongside it.

Of the total mintage, 20,000,000 were minted in West Point in 1983, and 25,000,000 were minted at the Philadelphia Mint in 1984. The remainder were minted by the Royal Canadian Mint.

NOTE: also exists as Bronze issue KM#22
