Piece carved by Nina-Victorine Lefèvre (née Kestler), of Uzbek origin, and by her husband Julien Lefèvre, struck at the Brussels Mint. These coins were intended to replace the 25 cents in bronze. The alloy contains 97% aluminum and 3% magnesium, with a tolerance both outside and within 15 thousandths for aluminum and 10 thousandths for magnesium. The tolerance of the weight being 50 thousandths.
For the year 1963, Probst mentions three known examples in cupronickel (reference L#300-7). Weiller and no other catalog mention this variant. The reference L#306-8 corresponds to the 25 cents in silver, polished flan, minted in 1980.
Existing piece in coin alignment (KM#45a.1) and in medal alignment (KM#45a.2).
Orientation in medal alignment is much less common.
The medal alignment strikes exist for the 1960, 1963, 1965 and 1967 years. Probst and Weiller also mention a medal coin for the year 1954. This orientation for the year 1954 remains unknown to the current Luxembourg numismatists. However several copies of 1954 in off-center hits are known.
The 25-cent aluminum coins disappeared from circulation at the end of the 1980s. Their actual withdrawal was ordered much later by the Grand-Ducal Regulation of 20 December 2001 on the demonetisation of the francs to change over to the euro.

Values in the table above are expressed in USD. They are based on evaluations by Numista users and sales realized on Internet platforms. They serve as a measure, but they are not intended to be relied upon for buying, selling or exchanging. Numista does not buy or sell coins or banknotes.
Frequencies show the percentage of Numista users who own each year or variety among all the users who own this coin. Since some users own several versions, the sum may be greater than 100%.
