Engraver: Charles Edward Barber

Charles Edward Barber was the sixth Chief Engraver of the United States Mint from 1879 until his death in 1917. Although Barber's coins were met with mixed reviews, he had a long and fruitful career in coinage, designing most of the coins used at the mint during his time as Chief Engraver.

Reverse

Portrait of José Julián Martí Pérez (1853–1895), leader of the Cuba independence. Motto "Fatherland or death" as curved legend on top, face value on left, word "PESO" overprinted on numeral "1". Endecagonal rim (11 sides), and line of beads close to rim.
