Reverse

Designed by Canadian artist Jori van der Linde, the $1 coin’s reverse features the artist’s rendition of the gold discovery that set off the Klondike Gold Rush. Under the shining sun, Keish (“Skookum” Jim Mason), Shaaw Tlàa (Kate Carmack), Kàa Goox (Dawson Charlie), all of whom were of Lingít and Tagish descent, and George Carmack can be seen panning for gold at the edge of Gàh Dek (Rabbit Creek/Bonanza Creek). A powerful symbol of cultural revitalization, the pictorial symbol for Ëdhä Dädhëchą (Moosehide Slide) appears on the opposite side of the creek, and represents the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in and their deep, abiding connection to the land.

REVISIT THE KLONDIKE! The year 2021 marks the 125th anniversary of the Klondike Gold Rush, an event deeply etched in our collective history. The theme recurs on several coins issued in 2021, including the $1 circulation coin featured in this special roll collection.
TWO VERSIONS! Each special roll adds 25 copies of the $1 2021 commemorative coin, the 125th anniversary of the Klondike Gold Rush, to your collection. With the special roll collection, you get both versions: a roll of uncolored coins and a roll of selectively colored coins.

A VISUAL EXPRESSION! The design on the reverse combines various symbolic elements to enrich the representation of the Klondike experience. It depicts the four discoverers; the wild landscape that awaited the 30,000 people who came to search for gold in what is now the Yukon; and the effects on the First Nations, whose traditional ways of life were greatly disrupted by the arrival of the outsiders.
Chief Isaac led the Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in during the Klondike Gold Rush and in the years that followed. From the very first years of the gold rush, he understood that the changes in the wake of the newcomers would turn his people's lives and culture upside down. In an act of foresight, he "protected" many of their traditional dances and songs by passing them on to neighbors in Alaska.
On the emblematic drum held by Chief Isaac in period photos is an image of a moose representing Ëdhä dädhëchą (Moosehide Slide), recreated on this coin and on the $1 commemorative circulation coin. This is an important symbol of perseverance and cultural revitalization, evoking the intrinsic belonging of the Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in to their territory.Automatically translated
