Comments

The West African slender-snouted crocodile (Mecistops cataphractus), or slender-snouted crocodile, is a critically endangered species of African crocodile. It is estimated that less than 500 individuals remain in the wild.

Both "Dérém" and "Dalasi" come from the Arabic word "Dirham", but modified in Wolof and Mandinka languages.

Important to note that number "4" in value does not have any relation with local names. Both "Dérém" and "Dalasi " mean "4 shilling - valued coin " , and not translation of English word "Shilling" . That is why local names in 1966 coins appear only from 4 Shilling valued coin, and not from lower.

Of the total mintage, 400,000 were minted in 1966 and 400,000 were minted in 1967.
