Obverse

The inner part of the coin depicts a view of the San Lorenzo del Escorial Monastery. On the upper side, in circular sense and with capital letters, the name of the issuing country ‘ESPANA’. At the right hand side, the year of issuance ‘2013’ and the mint mark. The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.

Luc Luycx is the designer of the common side of the euro coins. Luycx is a computer engineer, and medallist living in Dendermonde, Belgium, and has worked for the Royal Belgian Mint for 15 years. He designed the euro coins in 1996.
