Anna Pavlova (1881-1931), a Russian ballet dancer, graduated from the St. Petersburg Theatre School in 1889 and was taken on to the Mariinsky Theatre. Her remarkable talent of a classical dancer blossomed in ballets and concert numbers staged by the best choreographers of the time. Her rendition of Saint-Saёns' "The Dying Swan" became a legend.
