Felix Oscar Schlag was the designer of the United States five cent coin in use from 1938 to 2004. He was born to Karl and Teresa Schlag in Frankfurt, Germany, and moved to the United States in 1929.

The Lewis & Clark expedition joint Saint Charles (Missouri) to the Pacific for the first time by land in 1804-06. A key participant to the expedition, the Indian woman Sacagawea, is honored on a 2000 one dollar coin http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces923.html.
