Comments

The 1985 50 standard cent coin obverse was updated with the Third Portrait of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Raphael David Maklouf. It was used on all 50 cent coins up to and including 1997.

A special Five-Coin Set to commemorate the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Dodecagon 50 cent Coin  was issued by the RAM in 2019. The set included this coin with the Makleouf Third Effigy. The five coins in the set each display a different effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as used on the 50 cent coin since it was introduced in 1969 as well as including the new Jody Clark Sixth Effigy being introduced on Australian coins in 2019.

The Five coins in the Five-Coin Set are as follows :-
Coin dated 2019 with original 1969-1983 2nd Effigy Arnold Machin Obverse with Stuart Devlin Reverse. (Gold Plated)
Coin dated 2019 with second  1984-1997 3rd Effigy Ralph David Makleouf Obverse with Stuart Devlin Reverse.
Coin dated 2019 with third 1998-2019 4th Effigy Ian Rank-Broadly Obverse with Stuart Devlin Reverse.
Coin dated 2019 with fourth 2000 only 5th Effigy Vladimir Gottwald Obverse with Stuart Devlin Reverse.
Coin dated 2019 with fifth 2019 onwards 6th Effigy Jody Clark Obverse with Stuart Devlin Reverse.

A very rare Mule coin was observed that was created from a 1988 Bicentennial 50 cent obverse and a regular COA Reverse. Two examples are known but total produced is unknown.
