In 1925, Jack Holloway aged 53, founded the Samson Novelty Company in a basement in Dean Street. The name of the new company was derived from the Lodge of Freemasons of which he was a member. He was soon joined in this new venture by his younger brother Charles, as well as his three sons, John, Charlie and Harry. In 1937, at the age of 64, Jack died and the company was taken over by his eldest son John.
