During the German occupation in the Second World War, the palm tree mark was used to identify coins minted in the United Sates for use in the overseas territories of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (government in exile). Two dies of group B in 1945 are distinguished: the position of mint mark “P” can be far from “5” in date (low P) or close to it (high P).

According to official Mint records the 1942 issue of this coin was minted in 95% Copper, 4% Zinc, and 1% Tin. The 1945 issues were minted in 95% Copper and 5% Zinc (Brass).
For the 1945 P issue, 184,003,000 were minted in 1945 and 150,997,000 were minted in 1946.
For the 1945 S issue, 59,852,000 were minted in 1945 and 42,716,000 were minted in 1946.
The 1945 D issue were all minted in 1945.
