This NCLT 50 cent coin was released by the Royal Australian Mint to celebrate the 60 years since Queen Elizabeth II was crowned at her Coronation ceremony in 1953. It was released in a credit card sized coincard.

The coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 2nd June 1953 captured the attention of the world in an unprecedented manner. In addition to the 8251 guests in attendance, an international audience of over twenty million watched the coronation ceremony on television. For many it was the first televised event they had ever seen. The coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, a monarch who is cherished around the world, marked the commencement of a reign which has now spanned six decades.

Her Majesty ascended the throne in 1952 which meant that 2012 was her 60 years as Queen. This was celebrated as the Diamond Jubilee one year earlier with a 2012 dated NCLT 50c coin.

The coin was also issued in a special Australia Post booklet with various denomination stamps.

This coin was also released as an NCLT Fine Silver (.999) Proof coin in a capsule in a plush case.
