Comments

Part of a pattern set issued by the South African Mint in 1989, prior to the release of the third series of coins of the South African Rand.

These patterns were for the convenience of the manufacturers of coin-operated machines and other coin-related devices so that they could prepare for the new coin set, and so that the general public could gain familiarity with the new coin weights and sizes before the final designs were revealed.
