This coin and the 5 dollar coin with the same design are the only incused coins in the United States. At the time, people didn't like the design and wrongly believed that they would carry germs. Few coins still exist with exceptional quality. Today, this design is recognized as an important step of the renewal in US minting and is more popular than the Liberty type.
