Obverse

The design depicts the overlapping portraits of Kings Felipe VI and Juan Carlos I. At the bottom the name of the issuing country and the year of issuance: ‘ESPAÑA — 2014’. At the right, the mint mark. The coin’s outer ring bears the 12 stars of the European Union.

Engraver: Luis José Díaz Salas

Luis José Díaz Salas was born in 1967. From 1986, he worked at the National Mint and Stamp Factory - Real Casa de la Moneda de España, as a Designer and Engraver of coins. He realised the reverse of the pieces of 1,000 Uruguayan Pesos of 2003 and the obverse of the 1,000 Uruguayan Pesos of 2005. His best-known work is the obverse of the Spanish 1 and 2 euro pieces with the image of King Juan Carlos I.
