Seating Liberty, looking right above her shoulder, with a Phrygian hat on a stick and a shield, with 13 stars around her. The arrows on both sides of the date mean that the coin weight was reduced

Engraver: Christian Gobrecht

Christian Gobrecht was the third Chief Engraver of the United States Mint from 1840 until his death in 1844. He was responsible for designing the famous "Seated Liberty" designs, which were in turn the direct inspiration for the design of the Trade Dollar.

Face value in a wreath and the country name. "Half dime" is the old naming for the 5 cents coins, later known as "Nickels".
