Tom Phillips (born 25 May 1937) is an English artist. He was born in London, where he continues to work. He is a painter, printmaker and collagist. He is a member of the Royal Academy since 1989 and designed a Royal Mint commemorative five-pound coin for the 50th anniversary of the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

As well as being for circulation, the 2006 strike was issued as part of the Annual Coin Sets for 2006, in both Brilliant Uncirculated & Proof (Issue Limit: 50,000) qualities. It was also available in a Triple BU pack (10,822 sales) and was also struck in silver proof, silver piedfort and gold proof.


The coin was re-issued in 2009 as part of the 16-piece set (1,039 sales) to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the 50 pence denomination. The 2009 issue was also struck in silver proof, gold proof and gold piedfort. Issue limit: 5,000.
