Comments

After the 1979 Nicaraguan Revolution, the Sandinista government redesigned the national coinage to reflect Nicaraguan (and Latin American) nationalism.

Augusto Nicolás Sandino was a Nicaraguan revolutionary who conducted a guerrilla war against the United States Marine Corps in the 1920s and 1930s. He was assassinated in 1934 and became a hero among the Nicaraguan people.

Due to fiscal mismanagement in the mid-1980s, the Nicaraguan Córdoba was redenominated in 1988 at a rate of 1 "new" Córdoba = 1,000 "old" Córdobas.
