Comments

This NCLT RAM Commemorative coin celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Royal Australian Mint was issued as part of the annual 6 coin UNC Mint Year Set in 2015.

This coin was manufactured in three different versions. As a Gold Plated Copper-nickel coin as part of the annual Proof Year set, a coloured version in two different coincards, one of them for the WMF Berlin Money Fair. Finally in plain Copper-nickel as seen here. The 12 sided design of the coin is emphasised with the numerous 12 sided shapes depicted on the coin.

Since 1965, the Royal Australian Mint has been producing the coins that Australians have used in their everyday lives. These coins have meant different things to many different people. They have had an unwavering presence for everybody in the country. As the first wholly Australian-operated mint, its primary function was to produce the coins to be used after Australia’s changeover to decimal currency. Half a century later, these circulating coins are still adorned with iconic Australian images, showing the nation’s great pride in its people and unique fauna.
