ANNIVERSARY OF THE ROYAL AUSTRALIAN MINT
12 Sided Smooth

This NCLT RAM coloured Commemorative coin celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Royal Australian Mint was issued in two different coincards. One was a general sale release with a mintage 30,000 and the other was a special Berlin World Money Fair release with a mintage 5,000.
This coin was manufactured in three different versions. In plain Copper-nickel as part of the annual UNC mint set, Gold Plated Copper-nickel as part of the annual Proof Year set, and a coloured version as seen here. The 12 sided design of the coin is emphasised with the numerous 12 sided shapes depicted on the coin.
Since 1965, the Royal Australian Mint has been producing the coins that Australians have used in their everyday lives. These coins have meant different things to many different people. They have had an unwavering presence for everybody in the country. As the first wholly Australian-operated mint, its primary function was to produce the coins to be used after Australia’s changeover to decimal currency. Half a century later, these circulating coins are still adorned with iconic Australian images, showing the nation’s great pride in its people and unique fauna.
