Discovery of America
Santa María (vessel name= "Saint Mary")

Christopher Colombus discovered America on October 12th., 1492, and also discovered Cuba on same trip.
Santa María (full name Santa María de la Inmaculada Concepción= Holy Mary of the Immaculate Conception) was the leader vessel, as Colombus traveled on it. Usually is mentioned "the 3 Colombus' Caravels", but in fact Santa Maria was not a caravel, but a carrack; a vessel with simmilar characteristics to caravels, but owing to his dimensions, and structure, is a different class.
When returning on first trip, Santa María got stuck, and could not be released, all tripulants survived, and the contents could be took of the ship. At last they disassembled the ship, and with the woods, they constucted a fort named Christmas, as the shipwreck occured december 25th. 1492. Colombus returned to Spain on board of Niña.
