Wolf Dietrich Von Raitenau was the Archbishop of Salzburg from 1587-1612. He was highly educated, a great art collector and builder. He is highly responsible for the Baroque appearance of Salzburg. He died at the hands of his nephew in 1612. This design was thought to offer protection to the city from the "Storm of War."
