Comments

No five pence coins were struck for circulation between 1981 and 1987 since the old pre-decimal shillings were still circulating with a decimal value of five pence following decimalisation on the 15th of February 1971. The shillings were finally demonetized, along with this larger-type five pence, at the end of 1990 following the introduction of the new, smaller five pence piece.
