To mark the 50th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II Accession or Golden Jubilee a new design was released by the Royal Australian Mint in 2002. This coin was originally intended to circulate but this decision was overruled after advice from the Treasury that there were enough 50 cent pieces already in circulation.
This coin was only available in a PNC issued by Australia Post on 2/6/2002. These are very rare and sell for upwards of $120.
A Fine Silver (.999) version of the coin was also released in a red square presentation box, Mintage 13,500 .
