Michael Hibbit (1947, London) is a coin designer based in Reading, Berkshire, UK. He trained in graphic design and specialised in medallic engraving in 1972. He started working as a freelance sculptor in 1975, and he undertook commissions for the Royal Mint, the Birmingham Mint, Spink & Sons, the Pobjoy Mint, and the Franklin Mint, amongst others. He won an international medal competition staged by the Medical Heritage Society of America, which stimulated his interest in high relief medals. Michael is also a fully qualified paragliding instructor, and he has an interest in air sports.

What does the word "Pula" mean? Pula literally means "rain" in Tswana language, because rain is very scarce in Botswana (most of the surface of Kalahari Desert is situated here) and therefore valuable and a blessing. The word also is the national motto of the country.

What does the word "Ipelegeng" mean? The word "Ipelegeng" literally means "to carry your own weight" or "to be self sufficient or independent", in general has got different meanings in Tswana language. Ipelegeng is also a South African city and a Botswana program created for reducing the poverty in the country.
