Segundo a Casa da Moeda, até 40.000 moedas podem apresentar o defeito, o que equivale a duas horas de produção de um único equipamento. O defeito foi descoberto depois que uma moeda errada foi recebida como troco na cidade do Rio de Janeiro. Exame pericial concluiu tratar-se de defeito de fabricação.
