Obverse

The design shows the coat of arms of the historical region of Latvia — Vidzeme or Livland. At the top, there is the inscription of the issuing country ‘LATVIJA’ and at the bottom the inscription ‘VIDZEME’. At the right is the year of issuance ‘2016’. The coin’s outer ring bears the 12 stars of the European Union.

Engraver: Jānis Strupulis

Jānis Strupulis (monogram JS), born 1949 in Vacpiebalga, is a Latvian sculptor and graphical designer, who designed some of the modern Latvian coins with denominations in Latvian lats.

Designer: Laimonis Šēnbergs

Laimonis Šēnbergs (31 March 1947, Jaunpiebalga) is a Latvian poster and graphic designer. He has been an artistic advisor to the Bank of Latvia since 1993 and, since 2003, chairman of the State Commission for Heraldry of the Republic of Latvia. Laimonis Šēnbergs designed several coins for the Bank of Latvia. His best-known designs are the Latvian euro coins.

Engraver: Luc Luycx

Luc Luycx is the designer of the common side of the euro coins. Luycx is a computer engineer, and medallist living in Dendermonde, Belgium, and has worked for the Royal Belgian Mint for 15 years. He designed the euro coins in 1996.
