LC-2A2 Lower left rosebud curves upward with a leaf with no stem
LC-2A3 The bow on the bouquet is doubled

LC-2A6 The stem of the lower left rosebud originates from a leaf, large ampersand

In 1836, the Bank of Montreal was permitted to issue sous inscribed with its name. The engravers, in their ignorance of the French language, cut the value to read UN SOUS (plural). The misspelling was not a hinderance to their circulation but an easy means of determination when numerous imitations were later imported.

The LC-2 series, without BANK OF MONTREAL, was possibly issued without government approval.
