Tajikistan is a landlocked and mountainous country in Central Asia and one of the five former Soviet republics in that region. The Tajik people have a shared ancestry with Iranians as opposed to the other Central Asian states where Turkic ethnicities are a majority. Tajikistan's population is around 9 million.
