Coins from the Transalpine Area
The Lombards descended from a small tribe in Scandinavia, and when seeking new land, they headed south, settling in the Transalpine Area centred in Pannonia, in the modern-day countries of Austria and Slovenia. While in the Transalpine Area, the Lombards defeated the Gepid Kingdom in 567 before moving to Italy soon after, establishing the Lombard Kingdom in 568.
