Coins from Vandal Sardinia

The Vandals first occupied Sardinia in 456, but only controlled the majority of the island by 474. Under new rule, the administrative system did not change much, although for some people to keep their land, they needed to pay lump sums. In 433, while the Vandal Kingdom was falling and Sardinia gained a great amount of autonomy, the governor of the island, Godas, declared himself King. Even so, the Vandal king, Gelimer (530-534), did not support Godas. He sent his brother to the island, who executed Godas the same year Godas declared himself king. The island remained under Vandal control until 534, when the Vandal Kingdom dismantled and the island went to the Byzantines.
