[solved] Western Africa 100 Francs
Posted: 13-Sep-2017, 12:06PM in Numismatic questions

Ok, so is it simply the page for KM#4 which needs changing to read magnetic instead of non-magnetic? Can anyone else check their 100 franc coins from Western Africa from 1967-2009 to see if they are all magnetic? • Thanks. • p.s. actually I also have 2 others of these coins from 1969 and 1976 according to my coin list, so I will also pull these tonight and check if they are magnetic or not. If so I will request the change to be made. Thanks.

Wanted: 2016 UK commemoratives (squirrel Nutkin, Shakespeare & army)
Posted: 26-Feb-2017, 12:59PM in Swaps and trades

Hi Mark, • I received an e-mail from a colleague in work when I was on holiday on Friday saying he had found for me the Great Fire of London £2 and my last outstanding Shakespeare £2 (comedies). He also mentioned he'd found 2 x 2016 The army £2 coins as well, which I already have. If he still has the 2 army coins on Monday I will pick one up for you if you want, and I'll see if he has any more squirrel nutkins 50p's too. I've had a few lately for some US collectors and completely forgot you were still needing one. If I get any more Shakespeare ones I'll give you a shout as well. • Phil

They're quite expensive to buy as well Vixon. I was after one for ages and eventually bought one off another member on here for £30, which was a decent price given the prices on ebay etc!! • This is the coin • Phil :)

Was talking to the same gentleman as in the original posting today and he again said he's been given a handful of foreign coins off his brother who'd recently been travelling. What amazing coins I found them to be when I got back home: • 7 x Mauritius, 7 x Barbados, 1 x Aruba, 1 x USA and 1 x St Helena (which counts as a new country for me).

I often get swaps opened, numerous coins selected which are already reserved for other members, with no message or greeting - nothing. • I don't even give them the time of day. Reject offer and file away, goodbye :) • It would be nice to either see which members are online (the quiz site I am an admin/moderator on shows you which users are online) or at least see when they were last online (again the site mentioned above tells you the last time a member logged in also). Posted: 6-Jun-2016, 08:08PM in Swaps and trades

I've had 1 recently where I was contacted to see if I was interested in a swap, I responded positively and heard nothing back. Another started a swap with me (with no message - which does irk me a little), so I let it go and responded positively, reserved the coins for him and added my own, but then despite me sending 2 further messages to get it moving heard nothing more, so cancelled it again. • As KasparsLV said, No reaction, no swap!

You know i think i will do a voluntary ban myself from the free discussion for 2 weeks. Then decide if i will ever come back
Posted: 6-Jun-2016, 10:15AM in Free discussion

Hey Daryl, • Just simply do what I do, read only those threads that actually interest you (and aren't full to the rafters of childish inults & playground banter) and mark all the rest as read once done. Don't get involved in any topics where the thread has been lost and don't boost any egos by lowering yourself to their level by engaging them in conversation. Just enjoy those aspects of the forums that you thrive in, it would be an utter shame to this community if you were to leave. • I think the forums are being littered lately with absolute rubbish which is a shame as we all "supposedly" share the same mutual interest - Numismatics. • I can see why a lot of members don't want to post on the forums, probably for fear of it turning into a "who can insult another member the most" competition. • Phil

A helpful guide against buying fake coins
Posted: 12-Apr-2016, 12:52PM in Free discussion

Wow, that one is definitely a mix-match of a coin! • Of the 4 new fakes I've just come across, 3 are definite, no question fakes. Wrong design for the year, wrong edge inscription, no alignment on the 2 sides, etc. • One of the fakes, however, I might have to put pictures up later for a second opinion. It's the correct year and correct bridge, it lines up nicely when spinning coin through medal alignment and it has the "pathway/criss-cross" design on the edge, it just looks....dodgy (for want of a better word). Almost blurry I'd say. • Anyway, can't take a picture now, my mobile phone is too old. Will take one tonight using my 11yr old daughters much newer phone :)

Delete coins from swaps
Posted: 6-Oct-2015, 12:34PM in Numista website

Agreed, I quite often select coins and am then told "I no longer have that coin" so you unselect it, but it still appears in the list of coins you are getting. Vice versa if I tell someone the coin they have selected from me is in a pretty poor state, do they still want it and if not they unselect it, but it still shows in the list and a few times I've nearly sent it anyway before realising. To delete these from the swap would be ideal.

Thanks for the information Phil.  I was also forgetting there were 2 for each state, one for each of the mints, for now I am just trying to obtain 1 quarter from each state (one day I may try and obtain the other 50 for the mint I don't have).  Got a mixture so far of D and P mints. • Shouldn't be too long now until I have my first 50 thanks to ongoing swaps with PajaSkot.

What's the largest swap you've ever completed?
Posted: 15-Jun-2015, 02:50PM in Free discussion

Previous one was a "Currency swap" with a US collector, US dollars/quarters for UK £1/£2 coins, so 16 UK for 48 US coins. • Current "low value coin" swap with a fellow UK collector is for about 60-70 coins which is my biggest to date.

It's bad enough on a bus in the UK if you pay with a £5 note, or if buying a £5 day ticket and paying with a £10 note!  Don't even go there with a £20 or £50 (in fact, £50's aren't accepted at all or even in some shops).

How you get to know this awesome site Numista
Posted: 22-Sep-2014, 08:07PM in Free discussion

Hi Bidesh, • I started collecting the UK Olympic 50p's and once I had them all I realised there were other pictures on 50p pieces so decided to see how many different one's of them I could find also.  I typed in "images of 50p's" on google to get together a list of them all and one of the sites I came across was this one.  I then realised just how many different £1 and £2 coins there were and also was amazed just how many different coins there were in the world, so decided to start collecting random world coins too.  This was just over a year ago now, so within 12 months I have collected over 1,800 coins and enjoyed entering them all on my collection on here.

As if I don't have enough projects, let's add some more!!!

Hi barnabus, • Having read your post I logged out so I was a guest and managed to find you and view your collection.  Ask your friend to click on Forum from the home page.  At the bottom it says "Numista is proud to count 37306 members" (subject to change), have him/her click on this.  They can then click on "B" and scroll down to find your name in the list.  If they click on your name it will bring up your profile and from there they can view your collection. • Hope this helps? • Phil :)

Quote: gsl91and this one: • Yes, I have a few "large" 50p's but I'm after one of those too!!  Keep getting outbid for them on ebay!! • Quote: gsl91I've got quite a lot of Channel Islands 50ps from her, including some of the Isle of Man Christmas editions which I like. Which ones are you missing? or do you have them all?Not got any Channel Islands 50ps and only have 1 Isle of Man 50p (one of the TT races one's), do you have any swaps? • EDIT:  Think someone edited my post and added their reply on it, I've removed it so they will need to re-post as a reply, thanks.

Token?

Yes, that did puzzle me that on the country list the tokens appear at the end before "unknown country" and yet when you view they are as you say right there at the beginning. • May just leave this one out and file it at the back of my collection :)

Help identifying/authenticating a coin
Posted: 28-Oct-2013, 10:19PM in Coin identifications and valuations

I gather from another forum that no-one likes the word "bump", but wanted to try one last time to see if anyone could shed any more light on this coin for me. • Just need to know a) type of coin (threepence/sixpence/other)?  b) Is it genuine or a fake/copy?  c) If it's real, what grade would you think?  Not been collecting long, so have honestly no idea. • Many Thanks (in anticipation). • Phil

Thanks for checking for me Kenny.  How would I go about getting it added to the site, if at all?

Thank you Zac, that would be fantastic.  The camera I have doesn't do the best of pics, but you will hopefully see from these that it is the Northern Ireland one and hopefully in an acceptable condition to yourself: •
